PADI Open Water Diver
Diver Certification Begins Here
PADI® Open Water Diver is the first scuba certification level. A highly-trained PADI Instructor will teach you how to scuba dive in a relaxed, supportive learning environment.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to dive at home or abroad and be an ambassador for the underwater world.

How It Works
Step 1: Self Study
- Enroll in the course and purchase your course materials. After enrollment you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to access your eLearning course.
- Complete all of your knowledge development on your computer or tablet, when and where it works best for you.
- The eLearning course will take between 8-15 hours to complete. All of your eLearning must be complete before moving to Step 2.
Step 2: Pool Session
- Prior to jumping in the pool you will complete some paperwork with your instructor and make sure you have the right size equipment.
- During your pool session will learn the basic scuba skills and practice them under the supervision of your instructor. You will apply these to dive scenarios to prepare you for your open water dives. Pool sessions can be conducted in Manila or at one of our preferred resorts in Anilao.
- Your pool session will typically take 3-4 hours but can vary based on time to master skills.
Step 3: Open Water
- Put all of the skills you have learned into practice in the open water! You will complete four open water dives with your instructor at one of our preferred resorts in Anilao.
- Your open water dives can usually be conducted over the course of two days in Anilao.
- Once you successfully complete all of the requirements, you are a certified diver! Your certification is valid around the world!

Requirements
Minimum age: 10
Divers certified between the ages of 10-14 earn a Junior Diver certification
Course prerequisites: able to swim, medically fit for diving, comfortable in the water
During the Open Water Diver course, your instructor will ask you to:
- Float or tread water without aids for 10 minutes
- Swim 200 metres/yards with no aids or 300 metres/yards with mask, fins and snorkel
Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.
